Today we all should have been congregating in the gardens to have fun and remember what happened in these very same gardens 75 years ago when up to 10,000 local residents gathered to mark VE Day and celebrate accordingly, and also pay tribute to all those that made Victory in Europe possible. We will Remember Them. Sadly the gardens currently remain closed and even if they were open the ability to hold any kind of social gathering is currently curtailed by the Covid 19 pandemic. Instead of enjoying the amazing facility that is Stephens House & Gardens, I am working from home writing this to thank all those that have given our appeal to raise £6,000 to reopen the gardens in June such an amazing start, 2 days in and we are almost half way there. Our appeal has been boosted by the pledge from an anonymous donor that once we reach £4,750, including Gift Aid, in any month they will donate £1,000, plus gift aid so as to bring it up to £1,250, close the gap and achieve our target. If 200 people give a £5 a week, the equivalent of 2 coffees, this will do it. If you have not already donated please do so and we can look forward to welcoming you all back in June. Even if the access is a little more controlled than normal and the hours of opening slightly shorter you will all be able to enjoy the gardens once more. Who knows, if we reach our target earlier and the Government relax the lock down in time we may be able to open a little sooner, we may even be able to get Inky's Stables Cafe open even if it is as a takeaway to start with. As I said in my previous message I trust you are all staying well and keeping safe, please spread the word about our appeal and we look forward to seeing you all in June. Please keep checking our website as I will be back with regular updates to let you know how the appeal https://localgiving.org/Reopen-Stephens-House-Gardens is progressing and provide more information on how and when we will be reopening.
